Out with the old

Trade-in, trade-up programs allow
you to cash in on your used clubs

What’s the point of letting that old set of golf clubs sit around the house or collect dust in the garage? With trade-in and trade-up programs typically available at golf retail stores, you can often cash in on the value of those old clubs and put it toward something new for your game.

The process is fairly simple and sometimes it can even be done online.

At Worldwide Golf Shops' Roger Dunn and The Golf Mart stores in SoCal, for instance, all you have to do is go to the Golf Club Trade-In Center on the company's website and your journey begins.

Follow the steps

First, select the type of club you want to trade in, then the brand, club model and shaft. The website will allow you to select from hundreds of clubs – including drivers, fairways, hybrids, irons, wedges and putters – from all major brands and many less common ones as well.

Once you’ve gone through that process and identified the right club, you can use the website’s Golf Club Condition Guide to determine what shape your clubs are in to receive an immediate trade-in value.

“We have one of the few trade guides that values based on condition, and our values tend to be higher than many of our competitors,” said Erich Mumford, a regional manager for Worldwide Golf Shops. “We also accept trade-ins toward anything in the store, not just club for club.”

TOP TIPS: Before trading in your old clubs for new ones, be sure
to do your research and testing. You’re looking to improve your
game, so it’s important to make sure your new clubs will do that.
Also, if you have clubs you are not using, consider bringing them
in for credit on future purchases. The longer you hang on to your
old clubs, the more you likely risk the value depreciating.

Get your clubs ready to trade in

One of the most important things golfers should do prior to trading in their old clubs is to get them ready for trade-in. A simple thing like cleaning the clubs can help with getting a good and fair trade value. Also, at Worldwide Golf Shops, sets must consist of five consecutive clubs  or more, have a pitching wedge in the set, and have matching shafts. Trading in metal woods and putters with head covers and tools is also helpful.

“The biggest factors in trade value is the condition of the product being traded, along with how old the model is,” Mumford said. “The better the condition of the clubs, the more value they will receive.”

Final steps

Once the online trade-in form is complete, you can send the clubs to Worldwide Golf Shops. The shipping is free. Then, you’ll receive an e-gift card that can be used online or at any of the stores across SoCal.

Of course, you can always bring your used clubs into any Worldwide Golf Shops store and you will be taken through the same evaluation process and can use the trade-in value immediately.
