The Vineyard at Escondido is a
course to be savored for its serenity

If you’re looking for an escape from the ordinary and a setting as serene as you’ll find in Southern California, consider The Vineyard at Escondido.
Freeway close and easily accessible via Interstate 15 from all parts of San Diego, Riverside and Orange counties, it stands out because from the first tee to the 18th green, you feel as though you’ve ventured far away from the hectic world of city and suburban life.
Playing just over 6,500 yards from the back tees, the par-70 Vineyard, which opened in 1993, takes its name from the small local wineries that border parts of the back nine, making rounds there seem as smooth and relaxing as a fine merlot.
Add in wetlands, wildlife reserves and majestic mountain views and it becomes a memorable track that makes you want to return.

Mission Viejo making upgrades to
Casta del Sol, changing its name

A lot of changes are happening at Casta del Sol Golf Course in Mission Viejo.
Soon, even the name will change.
The city of Mission Viejo purchased the golf course from American Golf Corporation in November for a reported $13 million, and has been busy sprucing up the property ever since.
It has also been soliciting ideas for a name change through a contest, and more than 1,000 submissions were made by the June 30 deadline. That list has been reduced to 20, and the city’s Community Services Commission will narrow it to five in August. The City Council is expected to pick the winning name and runner-up in September.

Roger Dunn Golf Shops
opens store in Monrovia

Let the celebrations begin: There’s a new golf store in town.
Roger Dunn Golf Shops, which has been serving golfers in Southern California for more than 50 years, opened a new store today in Monrovia.
The 10,000-square-foot shop is conveniently located off Interstate 210 near the Interstate 605 interchange, and offers all of the same top-notch equipment and gear you can find at any of the company’s other 11 stores throughout the Southland. The parent company, Worldwide Golf Shops, also operates five stores in the San Diego area under The Golf Mart brand.
“We felt there was a void in this area that needed to be filled and sits between our other two stores in Rancho Cucamonga and North Hollywood, which are about 25 miles away,” said new store manager Darren Foster.

Five hats to keep you cool on the course

It can get hot in Southern California during the middle of summer, and if you’re playing a round of golf with friends or in the heat of competition, you need to keep your head cool on the course.
Fortunately, there’s a wide variety of headwear for golfers to choose from. But with so many options available, it’s enough to make your head spin. We’ve put our heads together and compiled a collection of five that stand out from your typical headgear with a club manufacturer’s logo.
So sit back, hold on to your hat and keep reading!

SoCal course allows golfers
to play a round with their dog

Usually when you hear a course has been going to the dogs, it’s not a good sign. But that’s not the case at Emerald Isle Golf Course.
The Escondido track features an 18-hole, 2,452-yard, par-56 layout that is player – and dog – friendly as golfers are allowed to bring their pets along for their round.
There are some rules, of course, although there is no additional fee for fido.
The main requirements are that dogs maintain good behavior, are kept on a leash, and that their owners pick up after them, a responsibility on par with say replacing your divot or fixing a ball mark on the green.
As for course conditions at Emerald Isle, they are anything but rough. Over the last five years, improvements have been made to the golf course, clubhouse and, most recently, the driving range.
So if you want to play your next round with your dog and best friend, book a tee time at Emerald Isle Golf Course. There are plenty of treats on hand for after your round.
